Tóm tắt

This article provides a reaction to the provocation, ‘Liberal Studies for Engineering', by Bucciarelli and Drew (B&D) located in this issue. These authors provide an argument for a new type of engineering degree – one that delivers professional training in engineering through a liberal arts-infused curriculum. Although the B&D proposition is conceptually interesting, here I discuss some of the barriers associated with the implementation of such curricula in an academic setting. By addressing these barriers up front, universities may create the structures and culture that will allow greater acceptance of proposals like that articulated by B&D. © 2015 Taylor & Francis.
